Singin’ in the Rain and Helping Others Shine
Assistant Director
As Assistant Director on Singin’ in the Rain, my role was to support the director, producers, and tech team in creating a polished and dynamic production. While the producers led the high-level decisions, I focused on the performance side: building on the director’s staging, refining acting choices, and ensuring that the overall look of the show aligned with the director’s vision.
Much of my contribution came from anticipating needs and filling in gaps. I communicated daily announcements to the cast, supported scene blocking, picked up costumes, and responded in real time to actors’ questions or concerns — all to preserve the director’s bandwidth for high-level creative and logistical decisions. I acted as a flexible support system, multitasking across departments to keep the production running smoothly.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this role was observing another director’s process. I paid close attention to how he motivated students and prepped the show from the ground up, including techniques like pre-blocking scenes and organizing rehearsal workflows. Watching his leadership strengthened my own approach and reminded me that every creative collaboration offers an opportunity to learn and grow.
